The Brazilian star played a crucial part in the Blancos’ Champions League triumph.

Real Madrid are planning to sign a contract renewal with Rodrygo after his brilliant 2021-22 campaign.

The Brazil international found a slow start to life at Santiago Bernabeu after his move from Santos in 2019. However, he finally stepped up to become a key part of Real Madrid’s squad during the Blancos’ 2021-22 campaign.

According to AS, the La Liga champions are now looking to sign a contract extension with Rodrygo. The 21-year-old can reportedly sign a new five-year deal, which would tie him down to a €1bn release clause.

The Spanish source claims the Blancos are also planning to add the option of renewing the contract for the sixth year in Rodrygo’s deal.

The decision comes amid Real Madrid’s serious steps to rebuild their squad in the past two seasons. Having signed Aurélien Tchouaméni and Edouardo Camavinga in midfield, the Blancos have now started to shape their attacking line’s future.

A move for Kylian Mbappe fell through after the Frenchman decided to extend his contract at Parc des Princes.

However, keeping the likes of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior will help Real Madrid maintain their attacking quality while Karim Benzema continues his brilliant form.
