The English champions have taken their foot off the gas this season, having won just one of their last seven matches away from home.

Andy Robertson predicts Liverpool will need a points tally “in the 80s” this season to successfully defend their Premier League crown.

The Reds amassed 99 points, winning 32 of the 38 games and breaking several records in the process, as they brought an end to their three-decade-long wait of a title triumph in 2019-20.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have once again taken control of the top position of the table but a substantial drop in their standards has been witnessed this term.

Bottom-half teams West Brom, Fulham, Brighton, and Newcastle United have all been able to snatch points from Liverpool and only goal difference separates them and second-placed Manchester United.

“I think I can comfortably say it’s not going to be 97 or 98 points that is going to win the league this season, it’s probably going to be in the 80s because it is that tight and everyone is taking points off each other,” Robertson told Sky Sports.

“We need to stay in the race, and that’s what we have done so far.

“It’s just now we need to kick on in 2021. We need to go on a run of games where we win. We of course need to pick up more away points and keep picking up maximum points at home, and let’s see where we end up.

“But it’s a unique season. Hopefully we end up on top.”
