Alphonso Davies, Ben Chilwell, and Jordi Alba are among the world’s three best left-backs right now, according to Andy Robertson.
Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies is enjoying a phenomenal breakthrough season with the club. Initially a winger, he was shifted to the fullback role after injuries to key defenders earlier in the season. He has not looked back since and made the position his own. A blinding pace is just one of the many weapons in the highly-talented 19-year old’s arsenal.
Elsewhere, Ben Chilwell has established himself as one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League. One of the most well-rounded fullbacks, he is an excellent tool going forward but is also very solid defensively.
FC Barcelona’s Jordi Alba is another player whose name pops up quite often when talking about the best fullbacks in the world. Alba has had a quite successful career so far both at club and national level. The 31-year old might have regressed a bit in recent times but on his day, he is still well capable of wreaking havoc for the opposition defense.
And Andy Robertson, who himself has enjoyed a meteoric rise with Liverpool in past few years, insists the aforementioned players are currently the three best in their position.
“I think Alphonso Davies, already world-class but he can only get better,” Robertson told BT Sport. “[He is a] Phenomenal player, somebody I enjoy watching and I think the whole world’s enjoying watching him at the minute and I’m no different.
“Ben Chilwell I love watching in the Premier League.
“Then I would say Jordi Alba, the more experienced one of the three I would say, maybe coming near the end of his career, but what a career he’s had.”
