The former Liverpool attacker has headed to the Middle East to link up with Al Ahli.
Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino has joined Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli on a three-year deal.
The 31-year-old was a free agent after his contract at Liverpool expired at the end of last season. He is the fourth player to join Al Ahli on a free transfer this summer. The Saudi Arabian club has recruited five footballers in total. This includes Edouard Mendy. The goalkeeper arrived last week from Chelsea for an €18.5 million fee.
Abdullah Otayf, Fahad Al-Rashidi, and Sumaihan Al-Nabit are the other players to join Al Ahli for free.
Al Ahli won the Saudi First Division League title last season. This granted them a promotion back to the Saudi Pro League for 2023/24. With backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Jeddah-based club was able to offer lucrative terms to Firmino.
The Brazil international spent eight years as a Liverpool player, managing 111 goals and 79 assists in 361 games. He won seven trophies at Anfield. These included the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.
