Robert Lewandowski scored the fastest Champions League hat-trick in the history of the competition.

Robert Lewandowski scored the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history against RB Salzburg on Tuesday night.

The striker scored a 22-minute hat-trick as Bayern Munich beat Salzburg 7-1 in the second leg of their clash at the Allianz Arena.

Salzburg held the Bundesliga champions to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the round of 16 tie last month, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side made a strong start to the second leg.

Lewandowski gave his side the lead from a spot-kick in the 12th minute, and followed it up with another penalty after he was brought down in the box by Maximilian Wober.

The 33-year-old scored his third goal not soon after and set a new Champions League record as Bayern qualified for the quarter-finals.

The forward has now scored 40 times for Bayern across competitions so far this season. Reports in recent weeks have claimed that he could be on his way out of the club at the end of the current season.

Atletico Madrid have been touted as a possible destination for the Pole, who reportedly wants to take on another challenge outside the Bundesliga.
