In his latest column, Rivaldo took some lines to offer Joan Laporta some transfer advice about Lionel Messi before the end of the summer.

As the suspense keeps killing us regarding Lionel Messi’s negotiations with Joan Laporta, Rivaldo has some advice for the president. Even though there’s a sector of supporters who prefer Messi leaving in order to hit a hard reset to the club. The overwhelming majority would love the Argentine could end his professional career at the Catalan club. After all, he was basically formed in La Masia since he was a kid.

Leo’s story can only be compared to other legendary players such as Carles Puyol, Paolo Maldini, or Francesco Totti. But recent events are threatening to prevent that from happening. As of right now, there is no certainty that Messi wants to remain at FC Barcelona. For Rivaldo, keeping the club’s biggest symbol until he retires is almost a matter of life and death. In his view, Messi will ensure the future of the club and help the younger generations grow.

Rivaldo’s advice to Laporta is simple.

In his latest column for Betfair, this is what Rivaldo said to Joan Laporta: “Barcelona are in a tough financial situation, which has been aggravated by the pandemic, so I’m not in favour of them spending too much money on new players. Instead, they should focus on keeping Messi. We’ve recently seen improved performances from Messi since Laporta returned to the club.

“With the captain helping with Laporta’s bid for the club presidency, so the signs are that Messi is open to talking and perhaps signing a new deal. If he stays at the club, sponsorship deals and sales of match tickets will increase thanks to his enormous world reputation. The club would benefit a lot more from keeping him than signing new players who may or may not adapt to playing for Barcelona.”
