The former Manchester United and England defender has revealed who he rates as the best center-back in the Premier League.
Rio Ferdinand has declared that John Stones is currently the best central defender in the Premier League.
Stones, who made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in Manchester City’s recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, has faced challenges since joining the club in 2016, including injuries and form struggles.
But Ferdinand has lauded Stones’ performances last season. He commended the 29-year-old’s unique qualities, noting his composure and authoritative presence.
“John Stones is the best center-back in the Premier League at the moment,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast.
“John Stones, no other center-back in the league did what John Stones did last season.
“He could be in the argument, he’s such a different player, he’s brought more to the position because he’s being asked to. John Stones right now he looks so composed with the authority he plays with.”
Stones played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s successful campaign. He made 34 appearances across all competitions, including key starts in the Champions League and FA Cup final victories over Inter Milan and Manchester United, to help the team secure a treble.
The former Everton man is back in the England squad for the upcoming games against Australia and Italy.
