The Citizens could face serious consequences if they are found guilty of financial misconduct.

Rio Ferdinand believes financial allegations against Manchester City have already affected their players.

The Citizens are charged with over 100 breaches of the Premier League‘s financial rules. If they lose the legal case, Pep Guardiola’s side could face serious punishments, including a points deduction and even relegation.

Discussing City’s situation on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “I think they players will look at it and think, ‘are we going to stay in the competitions?

“‘We are hopefully not going to get a points deduction or be relegated. And am I getting paid?’

“That is the black and white of it from the players point of view. You don’t get involved in what is happening upstairs. I was at Manchester United with the Glazer stuff that was going on.”

Contrary to Ferdinand’s remarks, Pep Guardiola has insisted the situation is calm within Man City.

The Spaniard said on Friday: “Time will dictate what is going to happen, but just in case we are not innocent, we will accept what the judge, the Premier League decide.

“But what happens if the same situation with UEFA happens and we are innocent? What happens to restore or pay back our damage?”
