Despite Liverpool’s surge to the summit of the Premier League table this season, Rio Ferdinand thinks one of their key players is overrated.
Rio Ferdinand thinks Dominik Szoboszlai’s impact at Liverpool is not as significant as some may think.
The €70 million summer signing from RB Leipzig has made a positive start to his Reds career. He has started in 19 of Liverpool’s 20 league games and made five goal contributions at the heart of the midfield.
Yet, Ferdinand is not convinced, and he believes the praise for Szoboszlai is unwarranted so far.
“I know everyone is hyping him,” the former Manchester United defender said on Vibe with Five.
“But I don’t think Dominik Szoboszlai has done [as well as people make out].
“He’s a good player, but people are saying: ‘Oh, he’s the next [Steven] Gerrard!’ and I haven’t seen that yet.
“I see bare of their [fans’] comments. But one of my mates in my group always says it. But he is easy on the eye.”
That said, Ferdinand did praise Szoboszlai’s Liverpool teammate Ryan Gravenberch for his performance against Arsenal in last weekend’s 2-0 victory in the FA Cup. He also noted fellow summer signing Endo’s impact at Anfield.
