Everything you need to know about Manchester City’s rejection of an offer for their Spanish defender from Europe’s top-class club.

Manchester City turned down Barcelona’s offer for Eric Garcia on the transfer deadline day on Monday. We give you everything you need to know about the rejection of this move.

The Catalan side recognized the Spain international as the best defensive option. Subsequently, the club posted a late offer amounting to £9 million, plus add-ons.

However, the offer did not satisfy the needs of the English club. Though the £4.5 million of add-on fees seemed realistic, the final £2.7 million did not make sense.

During his last year of the contract, City compared Garcia to new signing Ferran Torres. Torres arrived at Emirates from Valencia for £33 million including the add-ons.

Although, Barcelona failed to reach the £20 million mark on the final day of the transfer window.

Pep Guardiola now has five major defenders in his roster. This includes the recent addition, Ruben Dias from Benfica for £62 million. Furthermore, Nathan Ake (£40 million), Aymeric Laporte, and John Stones add more depth.

Nevertheless, Guardiola’s side started the season with an injury crisis. On top of that, the COVID-19 situation squeezed the schedule of games. Therefore, City decided to not sell Garcia to Barca.

Moreover, the 19-year-old is a trusted player in the team who does not cause any problems.

Also, Man City pays less money in wages to Garcia due to the academy set-up. This is because he joined the club after leaving La Masia three years back.

He wants to go back to his childhood club after the current deal is over.

On the other hand, Barca suffered from the failure of the deal. Because the club released defender Jean-Clair Todibo to Benfica on a loan. Now, they have a vacant seat in the defense line.

Barcelona will possibly make move for Garcia in the winter transfer window. In addition, the center-back desires to return back at Camp Nou.

The Spaniard made his debut in the Premier League last season and played 20 games across all competitions. Also, he played against top-tier clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Lyon.

Subsequently, he made his first appearance for Spain in September in the Nations League. At the moment, the defender is on the list for Luis Enrique’s side for the international break.
