Garnacho is dropped from Argentina’s squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has dropped Alejandro Garnacho from Argentina’s squad due to his “form issue”.
Garnacho’s impressive breakthrough campaign last season convinced Scaloni to call him up for the national team twice. The Manchester United star made a brief appearance for the Albiceleste in their 3-0 victory over Bolivia in September.
However, the Argentine’s underwhelming performances this season have convinced Scaloni to drop him from the national team squad.
“The reason for not calling up Garnacho? Ale’s non-selection is due to a form issue,” Scaloni told a press conference.
“Also, during the last call-ups, he did not have many minutes. We have to think about the human aspect as well [with the players] but it’s great that everyone wants to be here.”
Garnacho has made ten Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season, failing to register any goal contributions. The Argentine’s form has seen his playing time at United also being limited by Erik ten Hag in recent weeks.
Garnacho’s omission from Argentina’s squad is significant as the Albiceleste are preparing to face two crucial World Cup qualifiers in the coming days. Scaloni’s men will face Uruguay on Friday before taking on Brazil five days later.
