Brighton is the frontrunner to close the deal with a 19-year-old wonderkid wanted by Manchester United.

Several weeks ago, it was reported that Manchester United was interested in securing the services of Ecuadorian starlet Moises Caicedo. Moreover, it was believed that Chelsea had joined the race as well.

It turns out, however, that the 19-year-old midfielder is most likely to join a different Premier League side. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brighton has reached an agreement with Independiente del Valle for a €6 million deal. The English club is merely waiting for Caicedo’s work permit to come through in order to announce the deal. Moreover, the journalist also claims that Newcastle was seriously interested on signing the young midfielder but have also failed short.

Moises Caicedo is a 19-year-old box-to-box midfielder who is also capable of scoring outside of the box. The youngster has six goals and two assists for Independiente Del Valle, which earned him his first senior caps for Ecuador. Caicedo’s latest performances have earned him comparisons with United’s Paul Pogba and Chelsea’s N’golo Kante.

Despite this, the Ecuadorian midfielder will be joining Graham Potter’s squad in the next few days. Caicedo will be aiding Brighton’s hopes of securing a Premier League spot next season as they currently sit three points above the relegation zone.
