According to a report from Guillem Balague, Leo Messi and Cesc Fabregas could be destined to end up in the MLS in the near future.

We all know the story of Leo Messi and Cesc Fabregas. Two major football stars who grew up together alongside Gerard Pique in La Masia’s academy. All three of them remain in close contact but Leo developed a special relationship with Cesc due to their wives’ close relationship. That’s where the key to their possible next destination lies: the MLS might be calling both players to finish their careers together. At least that’s what Guillem Balague has been saying for the last few days.

During an intervention on CBS Sports, the Catalan journalist revealed that the players’ wives are attracted to the American life glamour and they want to taste it more closely. Balague is convinced they already convinced both players to take that next step but they won’t do it immediately: “We still don’t know when it will happen,” Ballague said a per Marca. “Because of course Cesc is still at Monaco, but it’s something that’s at the back of both players’ minds.”

Messi and Fabregas have unfinished business.

Even though they won the Spanish La Liga once, Leo Messi and Cesc Fabregas feel like they owe the fans something. They weren’t able to compete for the Champions League during the 2011-12 season or even beyond that. By the time the Catalan midfielder left, it was too late to get any type of international recognition as an offensive duo.

The MLS might bring them just that but it depends on where they choose to play during the twilight of their careers. If this report is any true, chances are they will try to play for the same football club when the time comes. For now, there’s a good possibility that they become rivals in the French Ligue 1. That is, if Leo Messi signs a new contract with PSG. Anything can happen at this point.
