Ahead of the 2021 summer transfer window, Inter Milan is set to go after one of Manchester City’s biggest stars on a free transfer.

Manchester City has many stars but one of them is set to be pursued by Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan by next summer. Sergio Aguero’s contract expires during the summer of 2021, which means he will be a free agent by next January.

Although he is still considered one of the club’s most important players by Pep Guardiola, the board might think his time is up with the Citizens. Diario AS just revealed that Inter knows Lautaro Martinez won’t last long with them and they are trying to get a proper replacement.

Knowing that ‘Kun’ has an expiration date at Manchester City is what drives them towards a possible attempt to sign him. The plan is to offer the Argentine a 2-year contract for €8 million for each season and not pay a dime for his transfer.

Antonio Conte knows that Pep Guardiola still wants him to retire at City but he also knows that the board is looking for his replacement. Aguero also has the option to return to Argentina but he would prefer to keep playing at the highest level in Europe for a few more years. However, this whole operation can get blocked by a very important detail.

Aguero wants to play with Leo Messi.

The one obstacle on Inter Milan’s path is Lionel Messi. With the Barcelona star possibly leaving his current club, he will probably sign a new contract with Manchester City next summer. The plan is for ‘Kun’ and Leo to play together at the Citizens for at least one season. Inter is hoping this doesn’t happen so they can make their move for the Manchester City legend.

Another major obstacle could be Aguero’s plan to keep scoring goals in the Premier League and enlarge his legend in the competition. Let’s never forget that Sergio is pursuing the all-time scoring title and he needs a few more years at the highest level to get there. Regardless of what happens, this latest move from Inter proves how committed they are to ending Juventus’ Serie A dominance for the next decade.
