According to a report from Spain, one of Barcelona’s most important players just agreed to a 50% pay cut due to the club’s crisis.

FC Barcelona has many great players to care deeply about the club, but very few of them will agree to a pay cut. As the world goes through a global pandemic, the Catalan club is also suffering the consequences of an economic crisis of historic proportions. The players initially agreed on taking a salary cut when this whole situation started in order to avoid sacking other club workers.

But things have changed quite a bit since that took place, the players are at war against the board. President Bartomeu is a specific kind of a villain to most of the squad, but there is one player who truly does what’s best for the club above everything else. This man is none other than Gerard Pique.

The Catalan defender has been a Barcelona supporter since he was in his mother’s womb, he understands that the current board of directors won’t last much longer. With this in mind, Sport reported that his contract extension consists of a 50% pay cut that is effective immediately.

Other players also agreed on a pay cut.

Gerard Pique is not the only player who set the example at FC Barcelona. There were other three players who decided to sign a contract extension with a reduced salary. We are talking about Clement Lenglet, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Frenkie de Jong.

Contrary to Gerard Pique’s decision, they only agreed on a 30% decrease. This is only one more gesture from a player who truly loves FC Barcelona and understands his life will be tied to it until the day he dies. It’s also a perfect way to score points with the supporters when the time for an election comes.

Especially when he appears as a candidate for the presidency. However, the Catalan defender just gave an example to the rest of his teammates on how to love their club as they should. Out of the 25-men squad, only Pique and the other three players have agreed on a pay cut.
