The Colchoneros have been linked with several strikers in the past few weeks. After rumors of a move for Arek Milik and Loren Moron were dismissed, it looked like Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose was the chosen one.

However, it seems that Atletico has moved on from the Brazilian and are now close to securing Moussa Dembele on loan. Several reports have also suggested that the French striker will be allowed to depart from Lyon as he faces a goal slump.

Contrary to recent years, Dembele has been performing poorly for the league leaders, scoring only once this season. Although the 24-year old has collected 16 appearances for the club, he has rarely been a part of the initial 11. Therefore, Lyon are keen on letting the highly-rated striker gather some minutes out on loan.

According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Moussa Dembele is close to joining the Colchoneros in Madrid. The former Manchester United transfer target is a fitting solution for Simeone’s squad. In fact, Atletico do not wish to spend a large amount of money on Diego Costa’s replacement.

“Dembele, close. Atletico’s first option was William Jose and a few details were missing between the clubs. Something didn’t work out and now Moussa is very close as it was reported in France. Congratulations. Loaned out with no obligation to buy. Lyon has accepted it and it all looks right on track.”

Dembele will join the Atleti ranks as fierce competition to Joao Felix, Luis Suarez, and Angel Correa. In fact, the French striker scored 44 goals in his last two seasons at Lyon.
