The teenage forward has been sidelined for FC Barcelona since undergoing surgery in early November.
Ansu Fati’s return from a knee injury has suffered a minor delay as Barcelona have opted to play it safe, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 18-year-old underwent surgery for a rupture in the internal meniscus of his left knee on November 9 following a LaLiga match against Real Betis.
Barcelona expected around a four-month absence at the time. This would’ve set him up for a return to action by mid to late March.
But while Fati has made good progress on his recovery, it’s taking a little longer than expected. The teenager is still not ready to train with the ball, but he is in an upbeat mood and is eyeing a return before the season ends.
It’s understood Barcelona have now pushed Fati’s comeback date ‘well into April’ to play it safe rather than risk any unnecessary injury setback.
Ansu Fati is expected to start training on grass in early April. If his feelings are good, he can still help the team in the final stretch of the season. Fati has also options to feature for Spain in EURO 2020 (2021). [@amartiherrero via @alfremartinezz] pic.twitter.com/G20sVpXJyW
