According to an incendiary report from Cadena Ser, all FC Barcelona players agreed to a pay cut but only one of them is refusing.

FC Barcelona needs to make important pay cuts to all its players this month before they have to declare official bankruptcy. The numbers suggest that between all the players’ wages, the club has to cut at least €190 million in order to finish the year without red numbers. After Josep Maria Bartomeu left the club, an interim board of directors took control with Carles Tusquets as the leader. He attempted to speak to all the players about these pay cuts but one of them doesn’t agree with this measure.

That player is none other than Leo Messi, who ends his contract in the summer of 2021. Cadena Ser’s ‘El Larguero’ reported that most players are entertaining the idea of getting another pay cut in order to save the club but Messi is refusing for a simple reason. The Argentine wants to wait and see which new president arrives at the club by Christmas in order to make a decision. If he doesn’t like who takes control of the institution, he will jump ship.

Messi does this during a rough week for him.

This is a very bad look for Leo Messi during this week, as he is taking criticism from all over the place due to his attitude on the pitch. The Argentine has received praise from several of his peers but this new report speaks volumes about his true commitment. Any employee who isn’t feeling appreciated by his company tends to underperform, it happens in all walks of life.

With this in mind, we can only expect more criticism against Leo Messi in the upcoming months. All signs are pointing at an imminent exit from Barcelona because the Argentine’s spell at the Catalan club appears finished. We can’t forget that Messi’s wage is €50 million after-tax for every season he plays at FC Barcelona. If the club wants to survive on the economic front, the club has to cut his salary the most.
