We bring you the player ratings from this exciting UEFA Europa Conference League fixture between Rennes and Tottenham.
After a shocking 3-0 loss against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last week, Tottenham were hoping to inaugurate the UEFA Europa Conference League game with a win versus Rennes. However, the task in hand was not that simple for Nuno Espirito Santo and his men because the French side looked confident.
Spurs took an early lead courtesy of fine buildup gameplay from the English club. Lucas Moura’s shot was deflected in off Rennes’ Loic Bade for an own goal in the 11th minute. But, the local boys displayed staggering efforts as they made a comeback within the next 12 minutes. Flavien Tait scored a beautiful curler which landed in the bottom right corner for the equaliser.
Casualties for Spurs, but a point to begin with.
Steven Bergwijn and Moura both were substituted during the match as Tottenham suffer injury problems ahead of a hectic domestic season. They face Chelsea this weekend in the Premier League having already lost Heung-Min Son to a calf issue.
The game progressed intensely as Rennes build pressure on the visitors with the help of their tactics and support from the home crowd. It paid off as they took the lead in the 71st minute as Gaeten Laborde tapped in a rebound from Pierluigi Gollini’s save. Though Tottenham managed to grab the leveller as substitute Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg tucked in a deflected cross past Romain Salin.
