Lionel Messi made his debut for the Parisian club, but it was Kylian Mbappe who stole the spotlight.
Paris Saint-Germain secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Reims on Sunday to maintain a two-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Lionel Messi’s debut was a paramount talking point coming into the match. The former Barcelona man was introduced into the game six minutes after the hour-mark, with a loud round of applause ringing around the stadium as he made his way onto the pitch.
Although unable to get on the scoresheet, Messi did manage to amaze the Stade Auguste-Delaune II crowd with glimpses of his extraordinary talent.
It was Kylian Mbappe, however, who was the star of the show. The 21-year-old forward scored both goals to rise up to second place in the 2021-22 Ligue 1 goalscoring chart.
Mbappe put PSG on the front foot at minute 16 by getting on the end of Angel Di Maria’s cross and powering a header into the back of the net.
The French forward doubled his side’s lead three minutes after the hour-mark, that time getting on the end of Achraf Hakimi’s cross and tapping in from close range.
