The Chelsea star avoided a diplomatic answer when asked to choose his GOAT.

Reece James participated in a Twitter Q&A this week, answering a host of tough questions from his fans.

It wasn’t hard to guess the Ronaldo/ Messi debate would come up at one point.

The iconic rivalry between the two forwards has been raging for over 15 years. Fans have tried to put an end to the GOAT debate whenever their favourite star breaks another record or wins another trophy.

James, however, avoided going into the details. When asked to choose between Ronaldo and Messi, he simply wrote: “Ronaldo”.

James has never faced Lionel Messi in a game, but he’s played against Ronaldo several times in the Premier League.

Being a right-back, it wasn’t surprising to see him choose a left-winger as his toughest-ever opponent. The England international picked Sadio Mane, who left the Premier League to continue his career at Bayern Munich last summer.

James’ other picks for the toughest opponent included Rafael Leao and Vinicius Junior.

Unlike Mane and James, who both missed the World Cup with injuries, all of the above-mentioned stars will participate in the tournament’s last-16 round.

Let’s see if Ronaldo and Messi will both manage to lead their teams to the World Cup final to play their biggest head-to-head match in Qatar.
