After breaking two records with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated the victory and starting Portugal’s title defense with a bang.

Even though Ronaldo was expected to make an appearance against Hungary today, his goal scoring ability arrived at the Euros fashionably late. First, he got his chance to become the tournament’s all-time top scorer with a penalty kick. Getting that weight off his shoulders completely liberated him and allowed him to showcase his skills in brilliant manner. A gorgeous combination with Bruno Fernandes allowed him to score one of the most beautiful goals of the tournament so far.

Obviously, UEFA awarded him the MVP of the evening and asked him to speak to the media. It was evident he was happy for the victory but Ronaldo tends to celebrate his personal achievements way more these days. It’s not every day you get to become the all-time top scorer of any major competition. Ronaldo will remain as one of the most important and influential footballers of the modern era.

Cristiano is happy with Portugal’s form.

Considering he is part of the infamous Group of Death, Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to highlight starting such a difficult group with a victory. Initially, all the Portugal players seemed anxious and that included Ronaldo. As soon as the first goal came, it was clear they would get a victory that jump-starts their title defense. Don’t forget that the Portuguese squad is still the reigning European Champion.

This is what Ronaldo told the press according to Marca: “It was so important to start like this. Now we have to continue. We’ve got to think about the next game and winning that. “The important thing was to win. It was a difficult game against an opponent who defended well, but we scored three goals. “I’m grateful to the team for helping me to score twice and to be named the star of the game.”
