It’s time to take a closer look at the player ratings of the Real Sociedad vs Napoli Europa League fixture played in San Sebastian.

After losing the opening Europa League match last week, Napoli needed a dominant performance against Real Sociedad in Anoeta. The Donostiarra were coming from a hard-fought away win against Rijeka that filled them with confidence to face Gennaro Gattuso’s squad. But the Italian club was coming for a battle in San Sebastian as they proved it from the first minutes of the game.

In such a balanced game between two well-organized teams, mistakes would be the decisive factors to find the winner. Lorenzo Insigne gave Napoli the bad news of the evening after suffering an early injury in the first half. The problem seems muscular and Hirving Lozano took his spot on the pitch. Most of the exciting moments of this game would come in the second half.

Politano and Ospina save Napoli.

For the second half, an early deviated shot from Politano gave Napoli the advantage against Real Sociedad. This would be the only goal of the evening due to David Ospina’s MVP performance where he made at least three crucial saves. Victor Osimhen was the worst player on the pitch after getting a disallowed goal and getting booked twice during the match.

Regardless of the suffering his players went through, Gennaro Gattuso celebrated a much-needed win that leaves them in second place of their group. Only AZ Alkmaar can brag about winning both games of the season thus far inside Group F.
