It’s time to address the huge elephant in the room. What are Real Madrid’s real options if Sergio Ramos leaves the club next summer?

There’s a major disagreement going on between Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos right now. The player wants to earn more money and the club wants to lower his salary expectations. If you ask anybody who appreciates Ramos for what he is, earning less money than players like Antoine Griezmann is a travesty. Sergio is a legend of the game who deserves way more respect than what he is getting from the club and journalists in Spain.

If he decides to leave, we honestly wouldn’t blame him for going after a sweet paycheck. The man earned his money through hard work and dedication. At this point, retiring at Real Madrid is starting to look less impossible as the days go by. For Los Blancos, Sergio is just another player who came and will eventually leave because they are the greatest club in football history. In fact, Florentino Perez already has two players in mind to replace him.

Florentino’s options to replace Sergio Ramos.

We’ve been discussing all week about one of Real Madrid’s easiest targets in many years: David Alaba. As Bayern Munich refuses to pay him what he requests, the Austrian defender presents himself as an ideal candidate to replace Ramos. He might be a full-back but he can easily play as a centre-back when requested. Although he won’t be cheap on his contract, Real Madrid is willing to pay him at least €10 million per-season.

At 28 years old, Alaba is still at the top of his game and in his prime. Diario AS reports the other option as a cheaper one with more local connotations: Pau Torres from Villarreal. We are talking about a much cheaper player with the skill to represent a massive club like Real Madrid. These are the options in case Ramos leaves. That we know of.
