Just days after winning a 14th Champions League crown, Los Blancos have welcomed Antonio Rudiger to their ranks.

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old German joins the Spanish and European champions on a four-year contract. He is the club’s first signing of 2022. Real Madrid will unveil him on Monday, June 20 at 12 noon (CET) in Spain.

The move had been on the cards for weeks, but it was only announced by Rudiger, along with Real Madrid and Chelsea, on Thursday.

‘I’m super excited for all the challenges’

The former Chelsea defender proudly took to social media to announce his transfer to fans, revealing his excitement at the challenges that lie ahead at his new club.

“I’m proud to announce that I’ll be joining Real Madrid,” Rudiger posted on Twitter.

“I’m super excited for all the challenges ahead and can’t wait to play my first games for this huge club.”

Rudiger made 203 appearances for Chelsea after a €35 million transfer from AS Roma in 2017. He has helped the club win five trophies in the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Germany international now hopes to add to his trophy haul in Spain with a Real Madrid side that won La Liga and the Champions League last season.
