The veteran midfielder is spending the final months of his current contract at Real Madrid.
Luka Modric is reportedly keen to continue his career at Real Madrid despite interest from Saudi Arabia.
Modric has made over 450 appearances since joining the Blancos from Tottenham in 2012. Having won 22 trophies at Santiago Bernabeu, Modric is widely considered a club legend.
However, Real Madrid’s policy of avoiding long-term deals for over 30-year-old players knows no exceptions. Modric’s situation has intensified reports about his possible departure as a free agent next summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is concrete interest from Saudi Arabia. However, the Croatia international is “waiting for Real Madrid” as his main priority is to stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid will most likely enter negotiations with Modric after the international break. However, Al Nassr also seem serious in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Speaking in a press conference earlier this month, Modric said of his future: “I can’t tell you anything (about my renewal) because I haven’t spoken to the club yet. Like last year. I am very calm. When you ask me this it’s a bit boring because I always repeat the same thing: I want to stay here. I feel good, I want to continue.
“I have to talk to the club and see what the club think, I want to deserve to stay, I don’t want someone to give me a present. In life nobody has ever given me anything. I would like to stay but only because I deserve to stay, not because of my history.
“Regardless of what happens, nothing can change my relationship with Real Madrid. It’s the club of my life, no matter what happens, no one can break that.”
