Despite what some reports have suggested, it appears Real Madrid never entertained the idea of signing Dele Alli from Tottenham.
Dele Alli was never on the bidding table for Real Madrid as Tottenham near a move to sign Gareth Bale on loan.
As credible reports have claimed, Tottenham are expected to sign the Welshman on a season-long loan and also complete the signing of Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
There were initial claims that Alli could go the other way as part of the deal.
However, Spanish publication AS say those rumors are completely false.
The report claims Zidane was left annoyed by Alli’s comments after his Spurs side beat Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League group stages three years ago.
Alli scored twice in the victory, and after the game said: “I’m disappointed I didn’t get the hat-trick to be honest. I had an easy chance at the end from a great ball in by Kieran.
“We spoke about it after the first game, we couldn’t believe the space we had at times at their place. We don’t want to just compete with these teams we want to beat them.”
AS claim Zidane was particularly angered by Alli due to the fact his first goal should have been ruled out for offside. Also, his second took a big deflection off Sergio Ramos before going in.
Asides that, the report also adds that Real don’t want to take on the 24-year-old’s wages when they’re trying to save money to pursue Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé next summer.
Alli has been on and off for Spurs of late and his future at the club remains uncertain. The midfielder was left out of his side’s Europa League squad as talks of an exit continue to grow.
Wherever destination he might be headed, it is most likely not Real Madrid.
