The Blancos might have to play without two key players in their next league game.

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Karim Benzema won’t play for Real Madrid against Girona while Rodrygo is also an injury doubt.

Benzema hasn’t played for the Blancos since their 3-0 win over Leche on October 19. The Frenchman trained with his side on Friday but he’s not ready to return to action against Girona.

Speaking about Benzema in his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said: “Yesterday he trained, after that he wasn’t feeling very well. We had some tests and everything was fine, but we just want to be careful.

“The tests were quite positive, there was no problem at all, but he isn’t feeling 100 per cent, so we are going to remain calm with him.”

Rodrygo was out of Real Madrid’s last training before the game due to an unspecified injury. Initial assessments claim the Brazil international will be back soon, but his chances of playing against Girona is unclear.

The Blancos hope to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, with Ancelotti expecting a response from his players.

“I think the team learned [from the loss to Leipzig] that we need to prep for every game as if it’s the most important of the season,” he added.

“Sometimes when you play every three days you need to recover physically and it is not easy to always stay motivated.”
