The Blancos are convinced to re-purchase one of their former academy players.

Real Madrid have reportedly decided to activate a buy-back clause in Fran Garcia’s contract.

Garcia started his career at Real Madrid in 2015 but left the club on a loan deal before making his La Liga debut.

In July 2021, Rayo Vallecano decided to sign Garcia permanently on a €2m deal. However, a buy-back clause in the left back’s contract allows the Blancos to re-sign him this January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have contacted Rayo to sign Garcia. The Sky Sports journalist claims the Blancos could add the defender to their squad for around €5m.

Spanish outlets AS have reported Bayer Leverkusen, and Inter have both attempted to sign Garcia. Growing interest from other clubs has reportedly convinced Real Madrid to return the defender back to Santiago Bernabeu as soon as possible.

Real Madrid, however, are not planning to re-integrate Garcia into their squad immediately. The club would reportedly loan back Garcia to Rayo until the end of the season.

Ferland Mendy’s dip in form this season has forced Real Madrid to increase the competition at the left-back position. Let’s see if Garcia can secure a starting spot at Santiago Bernabeu upon his return.
