The Los Blancos defender could remain on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, adding to Zinedine Zidane’s headache

Real Madrid have suffered yet another blow as Dani Carvajal has been “diagnosed with an injury to the muscle”.

2020-21 has been quite injury-plagued for Carvajal, who has managed to feature in only 15 matches across all competitions so far.

The right-back made his return to the starting XI after a lengthy spell on the sidelines only on Tuesday in the Champions League semi-final first-leg match clash with Chelsea but was replaced by Alvaro Odriozola after 77 minutes of action.

He missed eight games in October due to ligament damage, 10 games in November and January due to muscle problems, and 12 matches in February and April due to hamstring problems.

The 29-year-old missed training on Thursday morning after suffering another muscle injury and could miss the remainder of the season.

A statement on Real Madrid’s official website read: “Following the tests carried out today on our player Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the muscle.

“His recovery will be monitored.”

Carvajal’s latest injury intensifies Zinedine Zidane’s headache as Real Madrid are already missing a host of key players including Ferland Mendy, Sergio Ramos, and Federico Valverde
