Los Blancos have successfully negotiated fresh terms with a key player whose previous contract was due to run out at the end of June.

Lucas Vazquez has finally ended the uncertainty surrounding his future at Real Madrid by signing a three-year contract extension with the club.

Vazquez’s future remained up in the air all season despite him being one of Real Madrid’s most reliable and consistent performers. In what was an injury-plagued season for the club, the Spaniard’s versatility came in handy as he smoothly transitioned from being a right-winger to a right-back in the absence of Dani Carvajal.

Taking in 24 appearances across all competitions, he chipped in six assists and two goals. A knee injury in April marked an early end to his season, and the former Espanyol man was missed in what were some season-defining matches for Real Madrid.

England and France were suggested as possible next destinations for the 29-year-old, with Tottenham, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain understood to be the interested parties.

As it turns out, however, the aforementioned clubs would have took elsewhere in the transfer market as the Los Blancos academy graduate has decided to stay put.

An official statement on the club website read: “Real Madrid C. F. and Lucas Vazquez have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract and he will remain at the club for the next three seasons, until 30 June 2024.”
