A club legend is hopeful Real Madrid and Ramos would’ve learned from Ronaldo’s exit and settle on a new contract.
Jorge Valdano reckons the consequences that came following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from Real Madrid is a perfect example as to why the club and Sergio Ramos should agree to a contract extension.
Valdano, who played for Los Blancos in the 80s and later coached the club in the 90s, has warned both Ramos and Florentino Perez to not let history repeat itself.
The Argentine is adamant Real Madrid lost a fourth successive Champions League title by allowing Ronaldo to leave in 2018. He also believes CR7 would’ve won another Ballon d’Or, implying that Ramos should stay in the Spanish capital.

The skipper is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree on another deal. Therefore, he can begin talks over a free transfer to other clubs starting this month.
“He will end up renewing with Real Madrid,” Valdano told El Transistor. “It would be a mistake on both sides if it were not done.
“The same thing happened with Cristiano. Real Madrid was left without the Champions League and Cristiano without the Ballon d’Or.”
