The German defender is spending the last months of his current deal at Chelsea.

Antonio Rudiger has developed into an essential part of Chelsea’s lineup since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel last season.

The German defender has developed into one of the best centre-backs in Europe under countryman. However, Chelsea are struggling to renew his contract due to his wage demands.

Real Madrid are the frontrunners in the race to sign Rudiger. Following the departures of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos, the Blancos are looking to improve their backline. Satisfying Rudiger’s demands will not be easy, but a new report reveals he is closer to Madrid than we thought.

According to Telegraph, there is growing confidence among the Real Madrid squad that Rudiger will join them next summer. In case of a move, Rudiger will be reunited with his former Chelsea teammates, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.

Rudiger wants around £300,000 per week, but that might cause higher salary demands from other Chelsea players . However, the club might reportedly raise their offer in a last attempt to keep the 28-year-old at the club.

In addition to Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta will also become free agents in the summer. However, the Blues are confident they can tie the pair down to new contracts in the coming months.
