The Austrian centre-back faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ACL injury.
Real Madrid has provided an update on David Alaba’s condition following a successful surgery for a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
The unfortunate injury occurred during Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Villarreal, forcing Alaba to be substituted in the 35th minute as his left knee buckled during a challenge. This injury adds to the club’s existing long-term injury list, including Thibaut Courtois and Éder Militão.
On Tuesday, the club confirmed that Alaba had undergone knee surgery.
“David Alaba underwent successful surgery today for a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services,” the club’s statement reads. “Alaba will begin his recovery process in the coming days”.
The club may explore options similar to the Kepa Arrizabalaga loan deal to address the immediate needs in defence. Real Madrid has been monitoring potential defensive additions, with players like Giorgio Scalvini, Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, Willian Pacho, and Leny Yoro being reported as options for strengthening the squad either this summer or the next.
Real Madrid will host Alaves in their last game in 2023 this weekend.
