The Spanish defender is spending the final months of his current deal at Santiago Bernabeu.

Nacho Fernandez wants to “feel important” at Real Madrid while admitting his intention to stay at the club.

Nacho has mainly played second fiddle in Real Madrid’s backline since the arrival of the likes of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.

However, Alaba’s injury earlier this month has allowed him to reclaim his spot in the Blancos’ lineup. By starting for Real Madrid in their El Clasico defeat last Sunday, Nacho took his league appearance tally to 17 games.

The Spanish defender’s current contract runs until 2023. However, the club have already started negotiations to tie him down to a new deal.

“I won’t have a problem with Real Madrid about length of contract, money,” the 33-year-old said“I know that there’s no better place than Real Madrid”

He added: “I just want to feel important, it’s my priority, we will decide together with the club.”

According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are happy with the progress in Nacho’s contract negotiations. However, they are keen to stick to their policy of giving one-year contracts to players aged 30+.

Nacho is reportedly open to signing a new contract until June 2024 at the end of the current season.
