The left-back has been diagnosed with shin splints, leaving Zinedine Zidane without all four of his first-choice defenders.

Ferland Mendy is expected to miss the remainder of the season for Real Madrid with a shin injury.

Real Madrid have three games left to play as their hopes of a successful title defense remain alive. They pay a visit to Granada on Thursday, play host to Athletic Club on Sunday, and see off the 2020-21 campaign with a match against Villarreal on May 23.

Mendy, who has made the Real Madrid left-back spot his own since arriving from Lyon in 2019, is unlikely to play any part in any of those fixtures.

A statement on the medical report on the club’s official website read: “After the tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with tibial periostitis.

“Pending evolution.”

Real Madrid first-choice center-backs Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are also out injured and so is first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal. Lucas Vazquez, who has been acting as a makeshift right-back this season, is on the sidelines as well while Alvaro Odriozola’s availability is also a doubt for the next game.
