Real Madrid have provided a crucial update on their Covid status.
Real Madrid have suffered a COVID-19 outbreak ahead of their return to La Liga this weekend. The club have announced four first-team players have tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
The club’s official statement reads: “Real Madrid CF reports that our players Courtois, Valverde, Camavinga and Vinicius Jr. have tested positive for Covid-19.”
Two weeks ago, Real Madrid suffered their first wave of Covid cases, which forced six players out of the squad. Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo, Luka Modric and Marcelo all tested positive for the virus. It is not clear how many of these players will be fit in time for their side’s next match.
As for Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo, Luka Modric and Marcelo, they will most likely miss two games. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will face Getafe in La Liga on Sunday. The Blancos will then take on Alcoyano in Copa del Rey, before facing Valencia in their next league match.
Real Madrid are currently leading the La Liga table with an eight-point clearance. However, the new personnel problem might cause serious selection problems for Ancelotti at the beginning of the season’s second half.
