The Blancos might see one of their long-serving players leave for free next summer.

Marco Asensio could reportedly join Barcelona if he doesn’t renew his contract at Real Madrid until June.

Reports about Asensio’s possible departure have intensified in recent weeks.

The Spaniard is spending the final months of his current deal at Santiago Bernabeu, with no signs of a contract renewal being imminent. Asensio’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has reportedly started looking for a new destination for his client.

According to Gerard Moreno, the agent has offered Asensio to Barcelona.

The Spanish journalist claims the Catalans will consider a free move for Asensio. The 27-year-old’s versatility has reportedly impressed Barca.

Asensio’s negotiations with Real Madrid haven’t led to a new contract in recent weeks. However, the Spaniard has earned significantly more playing time than before.

The Spaniard is also one of Florentino Perez’s favourite players from the current Real Madrid squad. Following the Blancos’ underwhelming draw against Real Betis this weekend, the Real Madrid president reportedly went down to the locker room to speak to Carlo Ancelotti.

According to Spanish source esRadio, Perez specifically named Asensio and Dani Ceballos as players who should get more chances of playing.

This season, Asensio has started only seven games for the Blancos in La Liga, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
