The Spanish midfielder is set to leave Real Madrid after spending nine years at the club.

Lack of enough playing time has reportedly played a key role in Marco Asensio’s decision to leave Real Madrid.

Asensio have won 17 trophies at Santiago Bernabeu, including three Champions League titles. However, his contract talks with Real Madrid didn’t lead to a deal renewal.

According to Relevo, Asensio has decided to leave Dortmund for five main reasons. The Spaniard reportedly prefers to play behind a striker in a team where he can feature in key games.

The Spanish outlet claims the prospect of playing in Euro 2024 is another factor in Asensio’s decision. The midfielder reportedly doesn’t feel rewarded for his consistent displays whenever he’s brought off the bench.

A number of elite sides have expressed interest in signing Asensio. However, PSG seem to be in pole position to add the experienced midfielder to their ranks.

According to ESPN, the Parisians are in “advanced talks” with Asensio to sign him in the upcoming transfer window. The club’s good relationship with the player’s agent Jorge Mendez has helped them edge out other interested parties.
