Los Blancos have successfully tied down a long-serving and important member of their squad to fresh terms ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Real Madrid have announced Nacho Fernandez has signed a two-year contract extension with the club until 2023.

Nacho’s renewal comes as a huge sign of relief for Real Madrid as his future had been up in the air in the last couple of weeks.

The news also provides the club with a significant morale boost amid their delicate situation regarding center-half options. Los Blancos lost Sergio Ramos last month and are also expected to lose his long-term partner Raphael Varane.

Nacho, meanwhile, shares a two-decade-long association with the club. He joined the famed youth academy La Fabrica at the age of 11 and rose through the ranks to earn a first-team debut in April 2011.

The versatile defender has since gone on to make 233 appearances in the famous white strip, winning 15 major honors in the process.

He was previously committed to a deal until 2022 but has now extended his commitment by a further year.

A statement on the club website reads: “Real Madrid C. F. and Nacho Fernandez have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract in a deal that ties him to the club for the next two seasons and until 30 June 2023.”
