With a stellar first-half performance from Benzema, Real Madrid kept themselves in the fight for La Liga against Cadiz in a rough week.

Despite going through possibly the toughest week of the season thanks to their president, Real Madrid still played at Cadiz tonight. They didn’t just win with several injured players, they also dominated throughout the entire 90 minutes. Zinedine Zidane is an expert at deflecting any type of pressure from his players. He keeps them focused on the task at hand and today was no different. Karim Benzema scored a penalty and a header today in Cadiz, he also set Odriozola up for his goal.

All of this happened during the first half and that was more than enough for Los Blancos to protect the result. The second half was another defensive masterclass from Zidane’s players in order to maintain their pressure on Atletico Madrid. This victory takes them to the top with one more match to play than Barcelona and the Colchoneros. Both sides still have one more match to play. Benzema moved two goals away from Leo Messi at the top of the scoring table as well.

Real Madrid’s road to Chelsea.

Before next week’s semifinal against Chelsea, Real Madrid still has to play one game at home against Real Betis. However, the most difficult task will come as they face the Blues led by manager Thomas Tuchel. If there is one club that can defeat Los Blancos on the defensive aspect, that squad is Chelsea. But the recent Super League events affected both sides and we don’t know how focused they will be for next week’s commitment.

We already saw the Blues missing their chance to win against Brighton last Tuesday. Real Madrid didn’t seem affected by everything that’s happened but we won’t know for sure until the ball starts rolling. An exciting week is still ahead of Real Madrid’s title aspirations. Can they overcome all adversities?
