The Spanish star is spending the final months of his current deal at Santiago Bernabeu.

Marco Asensio hopes to land a new deal at Real Madrid despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Spain international will see his current Real Madrid deal expire next summer. The Blancos haven’t shown much interest in extending Asensio’s contract, tempting several elite sides to consider a possible free move next summer.

However, the 26-year-old admits he prefers to stay at Real Madrid beyond this season.

“Things are being discussed, we’ll see where it goes,” he told Marca.

“I’m focused on myself and the next game. I hope everything comes to fruition.

“I want to renew and be at Madrid for a long time, but it’s not something that depends only on me. For me the most important thing is the sporting side and being happy.”

Asensio was Carlo Ancelotti’s super-sub in their comeback victory against Villarreal on Friday. Having replaced Rodrygo before the hour-mark, the three-time Champions League winner provided a brilliant assist for his side’s third goal of the night.

Asensio competes against the likes of Eden Hazard, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid. Despite slipping behind his Brazilian teammates in the pecking order, Asensio seems eager to fight for his place in Ancelotti’s lineup.
