Zinedine Zidane is already without several of his first-team players, and now he could lose another one for a significant period.

Federico Valverde suffered a fracture in his right leg during Sunday night’s La Liga clash against Valencia, Real Madrid have confirmed.

The Uruguayan midfielder could only last for 76 minutes before being replaced by Toni Kroos in the match that Los Blancos went on to lose 4-1.

On Monday, the club released a medical report detailing the 22-year-old’s injury but did not provide any timeframe on his recovery.

A statement on their official website read: “Following tests carried out on our player, Federico Valverde, by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fracture in the posterior tibial bone in his right leg.

“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Valverde’s injury immediately rules him out of Uruguay’s World Cup qualifying matches against Colombia and Brazil this month.

Reports in Spain suggest it could take over a month for him to gain full fitness, meaning he could sit out Real Madrid’s Villarreal, Alaves, Sevilla matches in La Liga and Inter, Shakhtar Donetsk, and perhaps Borussia Monchengladbach games in the Champions League.
