Real Madrid defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League game on Wednesday. The Blancos increased their chances of winning the group by securing a vital victory.

Benzema steals the show!

Real Madrid were nowhere near their best at the start of the game. Shakhtar managed to outclass the Blancos several times during the first minutes, getting very close to scoring the opener.

However, it is not easy to prevent Karim Benzema from scoring these days. The French star broke the deadlock in the 15th minute by scoring Real Madrid’s 1000th goal in the competition.

Shakhtar’s Fernando levelled the game by scoring a stunning volley in the 39th minute, but Benzema once again saved Real Madrid in the second half. The French striker completed his brace by converting Vinicius Junior’s second assist of the night just after the hour-mark.

Real Madrid will return to action on Sunday as they meet Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga game.
