Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-0 to win the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday. A dominant display from the Catalans saw them snatch their first trophy of the season in Riyadh.

Barca are Super Cup champions!

Real Madrid started off as the better side but soon lost their dominance in the face of Barcelona’s relentless pressing.

The Catalans gradually took control over the possession, scoring the opener in the 33rd minute. Following an assist from Robert Lewandowski, Gavi made it 1-0 for the Catalans by converting a one-on-one situation.

Xavi’s men stayed in charge of the game, doubling their lead just before the half-time whistle. This time Gavi assisted Lewandowski as he nodded home a brilliant cutback from close range.

Real Madrid pushed hard to get back into the game after the break. But Barca’s dangerous counter-attack held them at bay for most of the second period.

The Catalans secured their victory when Gavi completed his fantastic performance by providing an assist for Pedri in the 69th minute. The 18-year-old’s precise cross found Pedri at the far post, killing Real Madrid’s hopes for a comeback.

The Blancos pulled one back through Karim Benzema in the stoppage time. But it wasn’t enough to prevent Barca from lifting the Super Cup trophy.

The Spanish giants will return to Spain to continue their respective Copa del Rey campaigns next week. Real Madrid face Villarreal, while Barca take on AD Cueta.
