The Blancos reached the Champions League quarter-finals after claiming a narrow win at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday. The Reds failed to get behind the hosts’ solid backline as they crashed out of the European competition.

Benzema strikes again!

As expected, Liverpool started the game by looking for an early breakthrough. The Reds made a few attempts to find Mohamed Salah behind Real Madrid’s defence line.

However, it was the hosts who found the first half’s most dangerous chance. A great save from Alisson Becker denied Vinicius from close range to keep Liverpool’s hopes alive.

Both sides continued pushing for the opener throughout the first half. However, they weren’t able to convert their chances as they went into the break on a goalless draw.

Jurgen Klopp made a few changes to their attacking line to change the course of the game in the second half. But that wasn’t enough to stop Real Madrid from attacking Liverpool’s backline from both flanks.

The Blancos were dominating the game when Karim Benzema secured his side’s qualification in the 78th minute. An assist from Vinicius Junior found the Frenchman, who made it 1-0 for the Blancos.

The pace of the game reduced significantly after Benzema’s opener as Liverpool accepted another defeat against their Spanish rivals.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men came close to doubling their lead in the 94th minute, but the VAR ruled out a penalty for the hosts.
