Both RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to make history by reaching the Champions League final for the first time.
RB Leipzig will be playing against Paris Saint-Germain in the first fixture of what is essentially France vs Germany in this season’s Champions League semi-finals.
Not many predicted Julian Nagelsmann’s men to reach this far in the competition, but their quality cannot be doubted as they have downed some of the more established heavyweights such as Atletico Madrid and Tottenham in their run.
Paris Saint-Germain, on paper at least, have had relatively the easier route to semi-finals. They managed to win the race against time in the match against Atalanta and clinch a 2-1 win.
Leipzig and PSG are now set to lock horns at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on Tuesday night.
Form:
Leipzig are flying high under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann. They finished third in Bundesliga last season, losing just four of their 34 matches – an impressive feat for a team that gained promotion to top-flight football just four years ago.
The German side have also won eight of their last 15 games in the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain’s domestic form might be something to worry about for their upcoming opponents. They successfully completed a clean sweep as they won all four available French trophies in 2019/20.
PSG have managed to avoid defeat in each of their last nine matches across all competitions.
Head to Head:
The two teams have never faced each other in competitive football before. However, they did participate in a friendly match in 2014 which ended 4-2 in the favor of Leipzig.
Both teams have undergone a massive transition since then in footballing as well as commercial aspects.
Team News:
Kylian Mbappe has returned fully fit from his ankle injury. Another boost for PSG is the availability of Angel Di Maria, who was serving a ban against Atalanta.
However, they will be without two of their most important players in Marco Verratti and Keylor Navas. The former is still recovering from a calf problem while the latter sustained a thigh injury in the last match. Layvin Kurzawa will also miss out due to a fitness issue.
Leipzig will be missing Ibrahima Konate, who is recovering from hip surgery. Also, summer signings Hwang Hee-chan and Benjamin Henrichs are both ineligible to take part in the match.
