A nail-biting clash saw Bayern salvage a point at Red Bull Arena.
Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with RB Leipzig in their Bundesliga game on Saturday. The Bavarians almost completed a second-half draw against Leipzig but had to settle for a draw.
What happened?
Bayern struggled to find their feet in the game early on as Leipzig found several chances on counter-attacks. The hosts finally got their deserved opener through Lios Openda in the 20th minute.
The visitors pushed for an instant equalizer, but it was Leipzig who doubled their lead only six minutes later. This time, Openda provided an assist after Sven Ulreich failed to meet the ball on a corner. Castello Lukeba smashed the ball into the back of the net from close range to put Leipzig ahead 2-0.
Bayern failed to create any serious chances during the remainder of the first half, but things changed soon after the break.
A free-kick from Leroy Sane was deflected off Benjamin Henrichs’ elbow, convincing the referee to award the visitors a penalty in the 55th minute. Harry Kane then made it 2-1 as he converted the spot-kick, bringing Bayern back into the game.
Bayern missed a few brilliant opportunities to score after Kane’s penalty but finally found the equalizer through Sane ten minutes past the hour-mark. A quick counter-attack saw Jamal Musiala find Sane with a superb through ball. The former Manchester City winger then converted the one-on-one situation with a cool low shot to make it 2-2.
Bayern pushed hard to complete their comeback, but it was Leipzig who had their best opportunity of the entire game to secure the three points in the final minute. Sven Ulreich sprinted out of the goal to prevent the hosts from scoring their third goal of the night with a shocking tackle behind the box.
