Ral Gonzalez has led Real Madrid’s youth team to the UEFA Youth League final and is remaining coy on premature celebrations at the Bernabeu.

Chelsea and Manchester City have made their marks on the UEFA Youth League. All the while, 13-time Champions League winners Real Madrid have failed to make an appearance in the youthful competition.

They have broken that streak under club icon, Raul Gonzalez. The Blanco was in the dugout as the young Merengues beath RB Salzburg to book their berth.

Raul was pleased with the win but did not think too much of the win. He reflected that winning is expected at Real Madrid and the job is not done yet.

The 43-year-old tactician shared that fatigue is setting in after playing matches in short intervals. But stated his belief in the club’s doctors and physios to condition the players in best possible manner.

“I’m happy, but it’s relative happiness,” Marca quoted Raul. “At Real Madrid you’re only happy when you win.”

“We have to get the boys back as soon as possible,” he added.

“It’ll be our fourth game and there’s a lot of wear and tear from the games.

“Hopefully with the work of everyone here, from doctors, physios and the drive of Real Madrid, we can compete on Tuesday in the best way and fight until the end.”

The game against Leipzig juniors had two distinct halves. Real the dominant force in the first one, with the Germans pegging them in their half after the break.

“There were two very different halves,” Raul commented.

“We were superior in the first half and started very well.

“In the second we had to defend because they played a very direct game.

“The boys suffered, but titles aren’t won without suffering.”
