The Rangers star will miss the crucial derby with an untimely injury.

Rangers will look to move level on points with their arch-rivals Celtic when the two sides meet in the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

The Gers are on a three-game winning streak, keeping the pressure on league leaders Celtic. However, they will have to play without one of their key players in the upcoming game.

Alfredo Morelos, who suffered a thigh injury while being on international duty with Colombia, will miss the derby. Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed the news in a pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Unfortunately for all of us he won’t be with us on Sunday.” said the Dutch manager. “We won’t have him back in the next couple of weeks.”

“Morelos will be assessed and hopefully we can give more news after the weekend.”

Morelos has scored 11 Scottish Premiership goals for Rangers this season. Van Bronckhorst’s side are trying to repeat the team’s success under Steven Gerard, who won Ranger’s first league title in ten years last season.

The Gers are currently 20 points ahead of third-placed Hearts as they continue pursuing Celtic on top of the table. After the derby, Van Bronckhorst’s team will prepare to face Braga in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.
